King Henry VIII

Henry VIII- the king of England during the 1600’s was well known for his attack on the monasteries – known as the dissolution of the monasteries in England. The monasteries were seen as being a cornerstone of Papal authority in England and Wales. After new rules were introduced into England that ended the Pope’s authority during the early 1530’s, the monasteries became the major point of the king’s attack as it was assumed that they would remain loyal to the Pope.

What is good about Henry VIII?

He was a powerful ruler that made a real difference and made his nation great. He set England on a course that led them to the top of the powers of the world. Their separation from Rome in religion and government made them unique and the home to new thoughts.

What's bad about him?

He falsely accused his wives and had them beheaded, broke with the Pope who would not give him a divorce and became head of the Church of England. So, because of this he made England protestant rather than catholic he was a Royal Pig who had many affairs and did whatever he pleased.
What i think about him?

I think he is a good king because he lead England more powerful and he also sold lands to people so that makes the nobles like him.

Dissolution of the Monasteries

3 Ruined Monasteries

Rievaulx Abbey was founded by St Bernard of Clairvaux in 1132 and became one of England’s wealthiest monasteries before its dissolution by King Henry VIII in 1538.

Mount Grace Priory was founded in 1398 by Thomas Holland, 1st Duke of Surrey. It is the best preserved Carthusian monastery in England. It was the last monastery established in Yorkshire, and one of the few founded anywhere in Britain in the period between the Black Death (1349–50) and the Reformation.

The Abbey at Waltham was the last in the country to be dissolved by Henry VIII in 1540. It was founded in 1030 and a building was constructed on the site by King Harold II.
